    Plane, 2023 - ★★★

You don’t need to watch this film to know what’s going to happen. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though. Plane was an enjoyable film to watch on the big screen, for sure

    ...

    Knock at the Cabin, 2023 - ★★★½

Shyamalan has the most hilarious cameo in this film. It’s a good thriller but I think the ‘twist’ (wasn’t much of one) was a bit loose for my liking.

White out conditions in Val d’Isere last week.. I’m slowly adjusting to being home but it’s not happening quickly ❄️

    ...

Had a pretty monumental week away skiing in Val d’Isere. The snow really came in for us on the Tuesday, definitely the best powder I’ve ever been in. Drank my body weight in wine, ate the same in cheese. A trip everyone should try and do …

    The Fabelmans, 2022 - ★★★½

All round a not-so-bad film. Chuckled at the quick horizon shift at the end. A nice telling of the story of the man so often behind the camera

Spent the night slogging away designing a theme for my micro.blog and think I’m getting somewhere near happy with it. Accompanied by some great music from Sharon Van Etten. It’s been a good old evening 😌

Here’s Mabel the cat having a yawn 🐱

    A Man Called Otto, 2022 - ★★★★

    First film of 2023!

This film is a precise mashup of Gran Torino and Up. Even had the trip to the falls. Turns out that’s no bad thing, I cried my eyes out and I’ll be buying the book. Thoroughly recommend giving it a watch.

Made my grand return to micro.blog today. Pleased to be back and I’m going to sink some effort into getting things set up how I like them over the next few days!

Avatar: The Way of Water, 2022 - ★★

    Bad

    ...

    Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, 2022 - ★★★★

Not as good as the first but enjoyable!

    ...

    Aftersun, 2022 - ★★★★

Spent 100 minutes waiting for something explosive when in fact the entire film just slowly burned. Left thinking for hours. Loved it

    ...

The Silence of the Lambs, 1991 - ★★★★½

What a performance from Anthony Hopkins, genuinely terrifying. Probably a bit criminal that it took me this long to see this film

    ...

    Taxi Driver, 1976 - ★★★★

What a rollercoaster. Some great soundtracking and the shots are superb. A wild, wandering journey around the mind of an unwell guy

    ...

    The Banshees of Inisherin, 2022 - ★★★★½

So good. Bleak and funny. Great acting. The “takes two to tango” back and forth had me laughing my head off

    ...

    Amsterdam, 2022 - ★★½

Not great, not bad. Cast is insane but the story is maybe a bit too convoluted for me. I do like when movies do a side-by-side with the real events in the credits though

    ...

    Don't Worry Darling, 2022 - ★★½

I think this is a great concept that’s been badly delivered

    ...

    Napoleon Dynamite, 2004 - ★★★★

    ✊🏻 yesssss

    ...

    In Bruges, 2008 - ★★★★½

    Colin Farrell really hates Bruges

    ...

    Jackie Brown, 1997 - ★★★½

Quentin goes easy on the violence but keeps the feet in this one. Great double cross thing going on

    ...

    See How They Run, 2022 - ★★★★

It’s a whodunnit. You see one, you’ve seen ‘em all. This one’s particularly good though

    ...

    Jaws, 1975 - ★★★★★

Saw this in IMAX for a special. It’s just iconic. Animatronics are better than CGI. That classic soundtrack. About ten shots of those oxygen tanks so we don’t forget they’re on the boat.. I love every moment of this film.

    ...

    Flightplan, 2005 - ★★★

I don’t think Sean Bean says “bastard” in this film, which would’ve definitely bought it another star. All round an enjoyable film, even if you could see what was coming next for near enough the whole thing.

    ...

    Heat, 1995 - ★★★★½

Spent the whole film thinking it looked familiar. Then “GREAT ASS” and it came flooding back. What a film!

    ...

    Flee, 2021

I watched this movie in its native languages, with French subtitles. Difficult to understand that, but the film could still be understood. A great story that’s heart wrenching at times. Worth a watch for sure
