Adventures in Peru 🇵🇪

Our big trip started with a couple of weeks in Peru. I really loved the time we spent there, it was non-stop action.

We started in Barranco, a small neighbourhood on the outskirts of Lima where we got a taste for Ceviche and local beer. We even managed an afternoon on the beach which I wasn’t expecting!

A person is sitting at a table with drinks and snacks in a colorful, art-filled café. A colorful mural with the phrase MUCHO POR SOÑAR adorns a bridge over a cobblestone street with parked cars and trees nearby.

We went out to the Amazon rainforest and hiked about. We met a rescue monkey called Jennifer that liked to drag you into hammocks..

A person relaxing in a colorful hammock on a wooden deck, holding a small monkey, with lush greenery in the background.

And some incredible wildlife. More birds than I could capture badly with a camera, but this Toucan is probably the best:

To get to the reservation we stayed at in the Amazon, we had to take a boat down the Madre De Dios river, a tributary of the Amazon.

A boat is navigating along a wide, muddy river under a sky filled with fluffy clouds.

After that came the big trek to Machu Picchu starting in the beautiful city of Cusco. The walk was 40km in a day starting from Santa Teresa and wrapping round to Aguas Calientes, which is the small town right next to Machu Picchu.

Four people are hiking on a misty forest trail surrounded by dense foliage.

All the effort was rewarded the following morning. We were the first people admitted (after a very early alarm) and watched the sunrise over the ancient citadel which was breathtaking.

Being able to walk around without anybody else there was something i will never forget. Peru was an incredible place to visit, full of beautiful wildlife, friendly people and great food.
