Día de los Muertos in Mexico City

We arrived in Mexico City on 1st November and thought we would go and have a look around to see what went on. Fortuitously, we’d decided to stay in Coyoacán which had shut down block upon block for the duration. The streets were packed with people, stalls and ofrendas.

The following day we travelled over to Mixquic, a small town that we’d heard has a huge celebration on the 2nd. There we tried some traditional Pan De Muerto:

Drank the biggest Michelada of our lives (not pictured, you can’t hold a camera and one of those at the same time) and we were welcomed into people’s homes to see the ofrendas they’d created.

The atmosphere was unlike anywhere I’d ever been. As the night drew in you could see the festivities in the cemetery, the streets still full of people until the end. A truly unforgettable couple of days!
